On May 11th, Rock and Roll Hall of Famer Dolly Parton and nine-time Diamond Record Holder Garth brooks will take on the American Country Music Awards. Dallas will house the event on May 11th @ 8 p.m ET. For fans who can’t make it, the event will also be live streamed through Prime Video.
This Isn’t Dolly’s First Rodeo
Originally, Dolly hosted on her own ACM Awards in 2000. Then, Dolly was asked to return as host last year in 2022 alongside Jimmie Allen and Gabby Barrett. However, exciting things have happened for Dolly since then. In November 2022, Dolly released her first Greatest Hits album since 2007. Titled Diamonds and Rhinestones, the album rolled out shortly before the release of her book in May. Cleverly named Behind the Seams, Dolly discusses her taste and interest in fashion and beauty. With her iconic hair and forever-sparkling dresses, fans are curious what she’ll wear for the 2023 ACM Awards. Regardless of how much she dazzles the stage, Dolly is already lighting up with the idea of co-hosting. She elatedly asks fans, “Who’s ready to party, party, party?!”
Garth Brooks said of his goals as host to Billboard, “All I hope that we do as a pair is represent [country music] well.” Having released 77 singles and 23 records, it’s impossible for him to disappoint fans. In fact, viewers will be in for a treat as Parton and Brooks joke with each other. After Brooks admirably complimented Dolly as embodying both “talent and class,” Dolly playfully retorted, “I told him to say all that, and that I’d say something good about him if he would say something good about me.”
More seriously, Parton explains, “We are excited about this because we’ve always wanted to do something together. We’ve always admired each other musically and as people and how we handle our business, so this is a great thrill for me.” Surely, Dolly and Garth have idolized the thought of working together for many years. “I think the fans are going to enjoy seeing us together, ‘cause Lord knows he’s got fans and I got a few,” Dolly adds.
Brooks’ Comments on Banter
On stage, Garth Brooks’ dedicated mentality should make the event a sincerely emotional event for viewers. Yet, Parton revealed that she’s not scared to get silly in the company of Brooks’ seriousness. While he’d like to be funny, Garth explains comedy just can’t be written into a script. Respectuflly, Brooks still promised to let Dolly “do her thing.” Don’t forget to tune in at 8pm on May 11th.
