Fredo’s Money Can’t Buy Happiness dropped January 29 and is already soaring to the top of streaming charts.
New Record, New Fredo
Rapper Fredo has returned to the music scene with a vengeance. The mega star just dropped his first album in two years and is already racking up millions of streams. Fredo’s Money Can’t Buy Happiness is his fourth full-length album, but only his second through the label Since ‘93.
Since ‘93 is a subgroup of Sony Music UK, whose impressive roster includes everyone from Harry Styles to Pharrell Williams. Fredo’s Money Can’t Buy Happiness is cementing the West London rapper’s place among those stars…. Even if it took him a little while to do so.
“I want to apologise for the wait. I had a whole different style album that didn’t really mean anything to me. Meanwhile a lot was going on in life that I was angry and confused about. I really thought that once you have money you can’t not be happy inside even if stuff’s going on but it’s not like that. I felt like the project I was working on before was me but doesn’t really explain me,” Fredo explained in a press release.
Fredo’s Money Can’t Buy Happiness Is All About the Guests
He went on to talk about how the people around him had a role on this album and his life as a whole. “I don’t want people thinking that certain things I rap about are important or the key of life because they’re not. Most things I rap about are just what I been through or reality for me and my friends.”
Fredo’s trajectory has been consistently on the rise since his 2018 mixtape, Tables Turn, released. It reached #5 on the charts and was the fourth largest UK debut that year. Since then, many of his singles have reached No. 1 – especially his work with Dave, a producer and fellow rapper.
Although Fredo and Dave have worked together before, this new album was a grand departure from their previous collabs. Not only was Dave featured on the album’s lead single, “Money Talks,” but he executively produced the entire record. He also co-starred in the “Money Talks” video, which is a four-and-a-half minute action movie that’s racked up three million views in one week.
R&B sensation Summer Walker also has a spot on the record, as well as rappers Pop Smoke and Young Adz. Both tracks are some of the fan favorites on streaming services.
Fredo’s Money Can’t Buy Happiness is the culmination of finding himself and featuring his friends. Money can’t buy happiness, but time can buy quite a few personal revelations and a lot of musical success.
