“Balling” is the latest from one of my favorites: EDEN. While “Modern Warfare” felt like a natural progression with its heavy electronic vibes, “Balling” is like I’m right back in “End Credits.” Let’s get into it.
Balling or Bawling?
Jumping straight into it. “Balling” runs with a simple chord progression that sounds exactly like it was done inside of Jon’s room. I can picture EDEN picking the strings and using the simplicity to exemplify his lyrics and vocals. Speaking of which, this track deals with mature themes, a staple of his music. This time being the, at times, inevitable truth that you grow apart from the people around you. It isn’t the first time this has been tackled. Way back in 2015 with the release of the bonus track “catch me if you can” off of “End Credits;” “Balling” feels like a continuation. Or rather a revisiting many years later.
With catch me if you can, you have a song about leaving your home to seek greatness. On the other side of the coin, you have Balling, a song still having the same sentiment but now from a place of greatness and success. This is usually met with sadness due to the loneliness of no longer having your loved ones. EDEN shares that sentiment with a wonderfully done song.
Balling is part of EDEN’s upcoming LP “In Case You Missed It”. That’s it for now. For more on your favorites and unknown check out our Word and Drops sections.
