Cheap Love
Born Amelia Toomey, girli is an English singer and songwriter based in London. Since her music debut in 2015 with the single “So You Think You Can F**k With Me Do Ya,” the artist developed a pop and pop punk infused sound, with influences from vapourware and PC music. Very personal and unique, the artist developed a strong, distinctive lyricism discussing, among other themes, feminism, sexuality, queer culture, and mental health. The singer’s first album arrived in 2019, when girli dropped Odd One Out with PMR Records. Girli was however later dropped by her label. This and the COVID-19 pandemic forced her to cancel her 2020 Sofa Tour. She then started working with the independent label AllPoints.
With AllPoints, the singer dropped her three latest singles: “I Really F**ked It Up,” “Imposter Syndrome,” and, of course, “Cheap Love.”
The single narrates the beauty of the simplest form of love. Between “bottle in a bag with a plastic tag we could open” and getting high “on a low budget love like we’re rich,” the song is an ode to girli’s love for pure, genuine, easy, and “cheap” love.
