Alright, I bet you never saw this one coming. EDM trio Cheat Codes and country singer, Jimmie Allen, put out a song! If you’re scratching your head as to why this is a total surprise, well… it’s EDM and COUNTRY! Those two genres are at the far end of the spectrum when it comes to music. How could this possibly be any good? Well, actually… you’d be surprised. With that, let’s get into it!
Cheat Codes & Jimmie Allen Nail It
First things first: the production. From the first note, the mixture of what I call “organic instrumentation” and electronic flare is present. The reverb on Jimmie Allen’s voice adds to it and after the initial verse, that kicks up. In addition, the drop is pretty good too! It doesn’t go absolutely crazy, which is good for this kind of collaboration. Although, “Lose You” goes by really fast. That’s not to say that it’s got a fast pace, but its length of two minutes and 52 seconds really goes by quick. Specifically, towards the end it seems like it builds and drops in the span of 15 seconds. Even so, Cheat Codes did a great job in placing me right back in my middle school days.
Switching gears to Jimmie Allen, his singing is alright. It doesn’t really stand out to me. It’s no MØ & Gryffin which REALLY feels good in every way. However, he does finish the job. Also, while Jimmie’s cadence leaves to be desired for a good percentage of the song, when he hits those high notes- thank you for that.
