The New York native opened for Ruston Kelly at four shows, and will also play at Lollapalooza this spring. Finally releasing her debut effort after a string of singles, DiRusso’s music promotion included a musical appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.”
“Emerson,” the lead single of DiRusso’s EP, God, I Hate This Place appears clad in indie-rock carrying that last bit of baggage. “Baptized by a pedophile in a church that reeks of oak and death,https://www.ticketmaster.com/annie-dirusso-tickets/artist/2815032” the opening lines cuts, rightfully poignant. The EP is a five-track coming-of-age odyssey tackling body image, relationships, and desire but wrapped in severe angst.
DiRusso tells NYLON, “The song, for me, is about that feeling of accepting your past self and your present self and your future self, and a thread in between all those different versions of yourself.”
