A Tik Tok Song For A Book

A Tik Tok Song For A Book

If you are anything like me, Tik Tok songs have a habit of sticking in your head. I’ll be mumbling the words to Edison Lighthouse’s “Love Grows” imagining myself someone’s Rose Marie or humming Olivia Rodrigo’s “Driver’s License” in my own car without even realizing it. Let’s face it – the clock app has infiltrated all our lives. We might as well let it influence our books too. Here’s a list of three books recommended from three hits we all can’t seem to get enough of.

Love Grows by Edison Lighthouse

Juli Baker is the original “she ain’t got no money / her clothes are kind of funny / her hair is kind of wild and free” girl. Flipped is a young adult romance told over a number of years about two next door neighbors never on the same page. If you are looking for a heartwarming story about where love grows, Wendelin Van Draanen’s Flipped is the book for you.

Abcdefu by Gayle

Gayle’s “abcdefu” elicits rage. Rage against an ex or in Jude Duarte’s case rage against a whole world. Holly Black’s The Cruel Prince follows Jude Duarte as she navigates a fantasy realm full of creatures and cruelties. You’ll be singing Gayle’s hit on every page, as Jude struggles to take control of her world.

Driver’s License by Olivia Rodrigo

Olivia Rodrigo’s breakout hit reminisces on heartbreak and if any author does heartbreak right it is Colleen Hoover. Any of her romance novels would be a good fit for Rodrigo’s melancholy and youthful lyrics, but the one that initially comes to mind is Hoover’s Without Merit. The novel provides a perfect blend of teenage love, along with apt self reflection.
