Kacey Fifield, a 19-year-old recording artist currently based in New York City, has continually risen above a crowded “rising pop star” field by staking her catalog on deep reflections and underlying meanings. As she charts a path to another project in the wake of her latest EP, weighty topics continue to be a tone-setter. Here’s everything you need to know about Kacey Fifield and her latest single, “Dream Girl.”
“Dream Girl” Sees Kacey Fifield Unite Lively Production & Meaningful Content
Arriving on the heels of her coming-of-age-centric project Nostalgia Haunts Me, professionally, “Dream Girl” certainly continues that arc of coming into one’s own. Though there’s only a short span between the launch of that EP and the release of this single, in the early goings of this “era,” it seems a more sophisticated air is the target.
Airy synths set the tone here, given energy by analog-like drum sections underneath; Sam Beresford heads up the production, a familiar name for anyone who checked into another MD Discovery favorite, Lostboycrow.
For Kacey Fifield’s part, her vocal delivery over top is equal parts lively and disconnected, speaking to the duality of the deep passion expressed in the lyrics and its unfortunate tone and tenor. As for those lyrics, Fifield delves into the central concept both interpersonally and societally:
“Lost my mind to fit into a mold
Changed myself to fix what never broke
Crashing from within, you wouldn’t know”
While the verse sections do an excellent job of exploring and delving deep into the beauty standard concept, the song understandably reaches a peak in its chorus. The instrumentation matches Fifield kicking into “overdrive,” the noisy, distorted guitar lines doing well to musically spell out the chipper overtones and a central uncanny undercurrent.
Of course “Dream Girl” is plenty addictive on its own merits, but of course, the true crux of why Kacey Fifield is such an exciting name for us is the sheer potential she’s showing so early on in her career—we’re eagerly anticipating what will come next. You can find “Dream Girl” and all of what Kacey Fifield has released so far on streaming platforms everywhere.
