Billy Joel Kingdom Comes To An End

As the years go by, Billy Joel is getting closer and closer to his final performance at his beloved Madison Square Garden in New York. After performing 150 shows – once a month for the past decade – the musician will finally end his Madison Square Garden residency in July 2024.

When the record-breaking Madison Square Garden residency inevitably comes to an end

The shocking yet expected news of the end of Billy Joel’s residency at New York City’s Madison Square Garden was soon to come – and we all knew it. However, it still seems incredible to consider that the record breaking residency has already reached its last concert. And as fans start buying the last tickets for the final nights at the venue, singer-songwriter and musician Billy Joel started discussing the topic in news conferences. “It’s hard to believe we’ve been able to do this for 10 years,” Joel began. “I’m now 74. I’ll be 75 next year. It seems like a nice number.”

The artist mentioned:

“I’m kind of flabbergasted that it lasted as long as it did. My team tells me that we could continue to sell tickets but 10 years, 150 shows – all right already!”

During the years, beside his 33 Top 40 hits, three n. 1 singles and four No 1 albums, and multiple awards, the artist broke an incredible amount of records related to his residency. And each time a new banner was raised to the Garden’s rafters.

In 1978 Joel headlined Madison Square Garden for the first time.

In January 2014 the artist started his record-breaking residency. Moreover, one year later, Joel broke his own record of the “most consecutive performances by any artist” performing the 13th show at the residency. Since then, Joel played one show every month, next year marking ten years since the first night. From the first night, every show has sold out.
