Music Discovery: Emo Rock Band, “Greywind”

“We swore…”
With these two simple words, the Irish-based Emo band “Greywind” would set the internet on fire. On this Music Discovery, we take a dive into this band’s explosive rise to fame.

Greywind Trends On TikTok

TikTok is a gift that keeps on giving, and we are all glad that Greywind was one of these recipients. After many previous promotions of their songs, Greywind’s talent and hard work finally paid off. In May and June of 2022, numerous of their TikToks went viral. They first went viral after posting their song “Car Spin,” and their subsequent posts of their other songs such as “Afterthoughts,” “The Lake,” and the biggest hit, “In Autumn.” These first posts of “In Autumn” alone shot up to 1M views each in just a few weeks. Hundreds of reposts highlighted one specific lyric: “We swore.” New listeners of their music describe instantly getting hooked on the passionate vocals, the heavy rock instrumentals, as well as the representation of emo culture and a Gaelic background in music.

Since their rise to fame, Greywind has toured all across the U.K, came to the U.S, and got noticed by Universal Records. With so much success for their old music, new fans should anticipate great new music from this band coming soon!

How An Irish, Emo, Rock Band Came To Be

Greywind is a sibling duo: Paul and Steph O’Sullivan. They come from Killarney, a town in Ireland. Growing up, this duo would fall in love with popular emo bands such as “My Chemical Romance” and “Taking Back Sunday.” Citing these groups as huge influences, they knew their dream would be to be in a band. They posted their first album in 2017, titled “Afterthoughts.”

The Irish Times have previously called this group the best in their region, and Greywind has performed in numerous festivals such as the Isle of Wight Festival, Rock Am Ring, Download Festival, and Reading and Leeds Festival.

“Seeing so many new people from all over the world discovering our music means so much to us,” Greywind says. “Seeing our songs go viral and get so much love has been overwhelming and we are so grateful.”
