“Writing ‘If I Don’t Laugh, I’ll Cry’ felt like breaking my own heart all over again,” Frawley says. “What was supposed to be a fun night out with my friends, turned into me having to get over him all over again. Not going to lie, sometimes it feels like I’ll never stop trying to get over him but I’m learning that’s part of the healing process. I wanted the verses to be a relatable narrative with the chorus being the anthem for actually getting over someone. I think the song resonates with so many people because it’s such a universal experience that tends to go unspoken.”
