What To Know About the New Wonka Movie

On Tuesday July 11th, the official trailer for the upcoming WB film Wonka finally made its formal release. What viewers can get from the trailer is the origin story of the beloved candy maker Willy Wonka. Given the movie has no connections to the two previous films, it is sure to answer many questions Wonka’s past. Especially what prompted him to have a passion for candy. With Timothy Chamelet playing Willy Wonka himself, the film also features a great supporting cast including Hugh Grant, Mathew Bayton, Jim Carter, Sally Hawkins, Oliva Colman, Rowan Atkinson, Kobna Holdbrook-Smith and Rich Fuller.

Commenting on playing the role of Willy Wonka, Timothy Chalamet told Collider, “I hate to say it, but the dream as an artist is to throw whatever the f**k you want at the wall. And I guess what I’m realizing is that one’s personal life, one’s adult life, can be quite boring and the artist’s life can still be extraordinary.” Chamalet even got praise from co-star Keegan-Michael Key, telling Collider, “there is a wonderful effortlessness about how he plays Wonka. Not to mention the fact that there is a hopeful quality that he gives the character. A kind of indomitable quality that there is this hopeful quality that he’ll never quit. He is always up for the next thing.”

Chamelet also took on the task of singing, as the film itself will be a musical. The actor told Collider that he will be singing a total of seven musical numbers in the film. Probably a record for him as he has never had the privilege of singing in a movie. With the trailers release, it seem to have all audiences in anticipation for its release. Hopefully the film can live up to its standards when it comes to theaters starting December 15th.
