Last month, Rick Rubin went live on the podcast The Joe Rogan Experience. Talking with Joe Rogan, he announced his upcoming collaboration with The Strokes. The American rock band and the music producer are in fact working together in Costa Rica on the new release.

Rubin said:

“A few months ago I was in Costa Rica, recording a new album with The Strokes, and we rented this house up on the top of a mountain and set the band up outside.”

He continued, commenting the band’s playing in one of the most suggestive and breath-taking locations:

“It’s like they’re doing a concert for the ocean, on the top of a mountain. It was incredible. And we did that every day, playing out in the [open], and they didn’t want to leave. It was, like, the best experience.”

Soon after, The Strokes’ lead singer Julian Casablanca went on Instagram and confirmed the announcement.

“Killed it on Joe Rogan. True, Strokes’ve jammed and started some stuff, but we’re still so extremely far off from being even close to any kinda remotely-near-doneness.”

This is not the first time that the band and the producer have worked together.

Rubin, American former co-president of Columbia Records as well as one of today’s most influential record producer, previously joined The Strokes in the creation of the band’s last album, 2020’s The New Abnormal. One of The Strokes most famous and loved record, The New Abnormal, birthed new classics like the hits “The Adults Are Talking” and “Selfless.” The album was the first since their 2013’s The Comedown Machine. Giving the huge role The New Abnormal had and the striking comeback it was, we can only expect a lot from the yet-untitled new album.
