Superorganism Enlists CHAI and Pi Ja Ma for “Teenager”

Superorganism, the enigma of a band, based out of, well, all over the world is back with a new single and new band members.  The formerly eight-member band is now a group of five.  After band member Emily, AKA Mark David Turner, had sexual assault allegations towards him, he, along with Ruby and Robert Strange, are no longer in Superorganism.  Now, the group consists of Orono, Tucan, Harry, B, and Soul.  After a rebranding, the group with members from New Zealand, The United States, The United Kingdom, and Australia, are back with a new single and album announcement.

A Track Full Of Different Talents And A Solid Sound

“Teenager” is the single that kicks off Superorganism’s new era.  The Stuart Price (Kylie Minogue, Madonna) produced track features Japan’s synth-rock band, CHAI, and France’s Pi Ja Ma.  The song is a satirical view of a teenager that thinks growing up is all glamour.  Lead singer Orono sings “I’m growing up and oh it feels so great” on the chorus.  Truly, her delivery seems too-cool-for-school – a perfect fit for a song like “Teenager”.

Production on the track is buzzing and energetic.  CHAI’s vocals are distorted as they sing “Teenager” like a cheerleading squad throughout the song.  Drums on the track are quick and paired with glitchy power-downs.  The heavy, pounding, synths stand out for all the right reasons on the track.  Because of this, they keep the track hyperpop and danceable.  Overall, the song is a perfect concoction of a summer bopper by Superorganism.

Additionally, Superorganism released a music video for the single.  The video is directed by AEVA (@aeva4eva) and shows Brian Jordan Alvarez dancing around, ridiculous, trippy animations, and Superorganism group members. Check it out below.

Finally, you can expect Superorganism’s sophomore album, World Wide Pop, July 15th via Domino.  Additionally, the U.S. leg of their tour begins September 7th.
