Not even language can stop music from reaching people. Music has proven again and again that it transcends language. SEVENTEEN’s lead single off of their newest mini album reinforces that truth. “God of Music” is a bright, feel-good song that encourages friendship, camaraderie and understanding through music, despite differing languages.

The lyrics make this message clear. In the first verse, the song kicks off with DK singing in Korean about how music is universal.

All over the world
A universal language
Different alphabets
But no matter as long as there’s music

– English translation by Genius

Then, Hoshi continues the theme of mutual understanding with his lines.

We can’t communicate with words
But with music
We can be best friends
From now on

– English translation by Genius

The post-chorus of the song is the catchiest part of the song, hands down. The repeated “kung chi pak chi, kung kung chi pak chi, yeah” is extremely anthemic; it’s a surefire earworm.

Making Pre-Order Kpop History

SEVENTEENTH HEAVEN made Kpop history with its number of pre-orders. The eight-track mini album “achieved a total of 5,206,718 pre-orders,” according to Gladys Yeo at NME. The record was previously held by Stray Kids’ 5-Star from May, with its 5.13 million pre-orders.
