During a May 25th talk show, singer Kelly Clarkson hinted at creating and producing a new Broadway show. It was very subtle, as she told NBC how she is “in love with theater and Broadway. I never thought I’d get a chance to do anything like that, so eventually I would love to do something.” She then said she is currently working on something, but fans will have to wait to see what she will do. Clarkson many times has told the media how much of a Broadway nerd she is. Back in 2012, she showed her Broadway voice when she performed “My Man” from Funny Girl at Radio City Music Hall.
Clarkson has been on the stage for years at this point. She started her career in 2002 when she won American Idol, signing a record deal immediately after. Her early hits include “Since You Been Gone,” “Behind Those Hazel Eyes,” and “A Moment Like This.” Her awards list includes three Grammys, MTV Video Music Awards, and four American Music Awards. She even received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 2021.
She has sold over 25 million albums, released 45 singles, and has been on several top ten lists worldwide. Most of her music is in the pop genre, but she has also stepped into adult contemporary, dance, and country. She has been a Voice coach for ten seasons and does not plan on leaving anytime soon. She began her own talk show in 2019.
With her accomplishments, she is hailed as one of the greatest pop singers of her generation. She is currently 19th on the Top 100 list of female singers. Could Broadway be in Kelly’s future? The potential of a new show by the star could advance her career even further as a Tony could be in sight for her. With nothing set in stone yet, it is now a waiting game to see what Clarkson has up her sleeve in the wide world of Broadway.
