Last week, upcoming pop artist Dempsey Hope gave listeners a sweet new track that is blowing up. “Strawberry Cheesecake” is the latest single from the Seattle-based artist who’s been dropping track after track this year.
The single follows Dempsey’s latest tracks “birds”, “picture perfect”, “on my mind” and “autumn”, which critics are loving. This new track, however, may be his catchiest song yet. With upbeat drums, melodic guitar riffs, and Dempsey’s unique vocals, he creates the perfect bedroom pop song.
Leaning heavily on a sound that he calls “nostalgic,” Dempsey crafts poignant melodies with Pop and R&B influences that will make you a fan after just one listen.
In a press release, Dempsey Hope goes more in-depth about the new single and what it means.
“This record overall is a fun summer love song. But “strawberry cheesecake” in this is a symbol for that special thing you can do for your significant other. Maybe they’re in a bad mood or you messed up some plans you guys had and you need to make up for it so you stop and get their favorite treat. Kinda like “brownie points” if you know what that means? my girlfriend doesn’t actually love strawberry cheesecake it was more of a metaphor, my girl’s equivalent to strawberry cheesecake is probably coffee or just my love and affection.”
Dempsey Is Giving Us Hope
Hope has released lots of music since his debut album, and from the looks of things, he just might be the next big thing on the indie-pop scene.
Last fall, Dempsey released his debut EP the dempsey hope project. The project was a collection of 10 songs that Dempsey had spent months working on and featured “baby blue” ft. Olivia O’Brien. The project also features his break-out hit “time flies” and fan-favorite “roller rink” which was in Billboard’s 10 Cool New Pop Songs To Get You Through The Week.
As of now, there has been no announcement of a project or tour in the works, but the way he has been releasing singles, expect to see something coming soon. For now, listen to the rising star’s latest track and tell us down below what you think!
