Calum Scott Covers Greg Holden’s “Boys In The Street”

English singer-songwriter Calum Scott released a cover of Greg Holden’s 2015 single “Boys In The Street,” celebrating pride month.

Bridges Arrives on June 17

Calum Scott is gearing up for the release of his upcoming studio album Bridges, arriving on June 17. The date is really close! And fans have been waiting for the album for a while now, as he released the first teaser in June of last year with the single “Biblical.” Then, in October, he released “Rise,” the second single of the album. This year, he shared “If You Ever Change Your Mind” and “Heaven.” Now, he’s back with the emotional “Boys In The Street.”

“Boys In The Street” is a cover from Scottish artist Greg Halden. Officially released in 2015, it’s a very heartwrenching track that narrates the estranged relationship between a father and his gay son. The father doesn’t accept his son’s beliefs for pretty much his entire life until he is on his death bed. A truly sad story, but it teaches us to always see the silver lining.

“Boys In The Street” Made Calum Cry

“He tried to change me. Say I’m embarrassing my country. How could I do this to my family? Do I wanna grow up being lonely?… My son, stop kissing boys in the street,” are some of the lyrics in the heartbreaking song.

“‘Boys in the Street’ is one of the few songs that has made me cry on the first listen,” Calum says. “I connected to the original version instantly and had wanted to record my own interpretation for the last few years. When I’d finished my second album, I had the time to craft my own version. I immediately got in touch with Greg to ask for his blessing. I knew it would fit perfectly on Bridges, and in some ways was the song I was missing. I’m honored to include this powerful and inspiring piece on my sophomore record – I know it’s a song that not only I can relate to, but will resonate with others around the world.”

Calum’s version of “Boys In The Street” arrives just as pride month kicks off, making this a huge celebration for members of the LGBTQ+ community.
