Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly Are Working Together

Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly: A Match Made in Rock ‘n Roll Heaven

Avril Lavigne and Machine Gun Kelly are teasing a collaboration, already making 2021 a year to remember.

Alongside their mutual friend, poet and songwriter Mod Sun, the pair are working on something special in the studio. Mod Sun has worked with both rockers before, including on 2020’s “Stay Away” featuring Machine Gun Kelly. “Stay Away” racked up 16 million streams on Spotify alone since its release.

Mod Sun and Avril have an upcoming single release together, as well. “Flames” was recorded just this past December and is dropping January 8.

AL and MGK Tease New Music

To everyone’s excitement, the original punk princess and current reigning prince of pop punk have joined musical forces.  Avril has been teasing new music in the new year for weeks, but it was photos with MGK that took the world by storm.

Thanks to a slideshow of Instagram pictures, music lovers got insight into the punk duo’s time together. Avril shared not one, not two, but five photos from her time in the studio with Machine Gun Kelly.

From posing for the camera to sitting in front of the microphone, it’s clear the musicians are working hard. Photos show a lot of fun singing, guitar playing, writing, and recording during their creative session.

The “Sk8r Boi” singer captioned the series, “So are we ready for new music in the new year or what?” The tens of thousands of comments ring true: everyone is ready for new music from this punk pairing.

Both have had a fantastic run over the past two years, so their collab is just the cherry on top. Miss Lavigne’s 2019 album Head Above Water follows the singer’s emotional journey with Lyme disease. It quickly became a fan favorite in her catalog and debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Independent charts.

Machine Gun Kelly’s first foray into pop punk was with 2020’s Tickets to My Downfall. The hit album reached #1 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and granted him his first MTV Video Music Award. Although he’s been a beloved rapper for over a decade, he has also been a rockstar since the beginning.

Avril and MGK equally have a successful and diverse background and a mutual love for rock and roll. Together, with their upcoming collaboration and friendship in Mod Sun, they can take the industry (and 2021) by storm.
