Sadly for the hip-hop populace, Young Thug’s name hasn’t been in the headlines for music in the past few years. An extensive legal battle tied up the beloved artist and YSL head for nearly three years, stemming from a 2022 arrest, but a probation-laden plea deal brought the saga to an end just a few months ago. Clearly, he made the most of the time since, now earnestly tipping off his next chapter with “Money On Money,” his first single release post-trial alongside Future.
Young Thug Returns To Form As “Money On Money” Portends True Comeback
Even if it isn’t one of Thug’s more off-the-wall performances, there’s still a ton of catchy flows found here, from the “don’t know the name of it” in the hook to the repeated “drinkin’ two-liter, ride a two-seater.” The beat switch hits sufficiently hard, and transfers the song’s energy into a duskier, harder-hitting universe well-suited to Future’s strengths. If anything, splitting Thug and Pluto’s contributions across the two pieces sacrifices a bit of interplay in the process, but it’s not enough to throw the whole operation off track.
The “taking turns” issue becomes a bit more noticeable given the all-out peripherals that surround the song. Even uniting with Future in the first place is plenty to signal that, but long-time collaborators Wheezy and Southside head up the production on this single, having extensively worked with both MCs throughout their careers. Pair that with the spare-no-expense music video, where the two rappers partially recreate Kanye West and Jay-Z’s “Otis,” and the whole affair is a signal that Young Thug is truly and officially back.

If this song has piqued your interest, luckily, there isn’t much time before Young Thug delivers the full dose after “Money On Money.” UY Scuti, his fourth studio album, will hit shelves on May 9th.
In anticipation, you can catch the complete Young Thug discography, including “Money On Money,” wherever you stream your music.
