Disclosure Gets Grimy With Latest Drop ‘ARACHNIDS’

"ARACHIDS," the latest Disclosure single, sees the duo ditch big-room EDM for straightforward club fodder.

Disclosure is back. Even if they released their latest studio album in 2023, the dancefloor was relatively quiet for the UK duo. They took a break from touring despite having that new project to promote. The legendary brother duo returned to the road for 2024. Amid that jaunt across the globe, they made major waves with the infectious loosie “She’s Gone, Dance On.” The next chapter for Disclosure is now coming further into view with “ARACHNIDS,” a new single release. Here’s what “ARACHNIDS” has to offer.

“ARACHNIDS” Highlights Experimental Disclosure Fare On The Horizon

No frills club fare is essentially the mission statement of the track; adrenaline-soaked bass drops, noisy percussion and the odd synthetic chime do most of the heavy lifting. Towards the middle, there’s a distinct break, affixing a sample from Peter Gabriel’s “The Feeling Begins,” particularly the Armenian duduk intro, juxtaposed next to some female harmonies that bring an unquestionably exotic flair. While many recognize the name Disclosure most for their “Latch” or “Omen” style anthems, “ARACHNIDS” is a reconnection to the grimy UK basements that they made their bones in before making it big.

Even the cover art aligns with that goal. Their signature typeface and chalky drawn art style harken to the Settle era that made them household names. To be clear, “ARACHNIDS” is almost assuredly not bound for the chart-topping path that Disclosure enjoyed during that period. But, moreover, it re-establishes a balmy, dancefloor connection that set it off in the first place.

Zooming out, it feels like the next chapter of Disclosure music is shaping up to fully embrace this sort of head-banging, straightforward deep house. Their latest full-length, Alchemy, provided sprightly material that echoed the carefree attitude of early career efforts. However, its true influence is the removal of any additional vocalists. With both “Arachnids” and “She’s Gone Dance On,” we’re getting a sense of how their formula, stripped back to just the brothers, can propel them into a new arc.
