The Canadian rapper Drake has recruited Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne for a Young Money Reunion concert. The concert is part of his three day long Road To OVO Fest Tour, in Toronto, Canada. The Young Money reunion will take place on Monday, August 1st. Other performers at Road To OVO Fest Tour A.K.A October Weekend include Chris Brown and Lil Baby. This marks the return of OVO Fest, as the last time the hip-hop festival occurred was in 2019. Drake launched OVO Fest in 2010, and currently he is working to expand the festival across the globe. Fans are ecstatic about the comeback of the festival and to see Young Money reunite.
The Evolution Of Young Money
Lil Wayne founded the record label Young Money Entertainment in 2003. Wayne saw potential in upcoming rappers Drake and Nicki Minaj so he preceded to sign them to his label. In 2009, Young Money released a compilation album to introduce themselves titled, We Are Young Money. This album featured timeless hit singles “Bed Rock,” “Roger That,” and “Every Girl.” Within five months of the album’s release, it was certified gold.
Wayne signed Drake and Minaj to Young Money in 2009 and 13 years later they are still dominating the rap game as solo artists. Drake’s debut album Thank Me Later, sold a whopping 447,000 copies in its first week. Drake beat Michael Jackson’s record of the most Number 1 albums.
Nicki Minaj’s debut album Pink Friday sold 375,000 copies in the first week. Nicki delivered arguably one of the best rap verses on the track “Monster” by Kanye West. This verse launched her career and proved she takes her craft seriously.
The Impact Of Young Money
It’s an instant smash hit when rappers Lil Wayne, Nicki Minaj and Drake collaborate on a track. They are one of the most powerful trios ever. Their chemistry on “Only,” “No Frauds,” “Truffle Butter” and “Seeing Green” is something we may never see in another trio rap collaboration. They are three skilled lyricists that continue to shock the listener with creative metaphors, double and triple entendres as well as ever changing flows. Their influence is prevalent in a multitude of artists, and the impact of Young Money is everlasting in Hip Hop.
