SZA Announces SOS Deluxe
Solana Imani Rowe, better known as SZA, announces the deluxe version of her astronomically successful album, SOS.
The singer-songwriter paused her performance during her album celebration event in New York to announce the extended version.
The arrival of her highly anticipated sophomore album SOS stormed in on December 9, 2022. The 23-song LP debuted at number one and has broken records set forth by Janet Jackson and Beyonce. It has proven to have long-lasting power, currently occupying the sixth spot on the Billboard 200 chart nine months later. In the meantime, SZA has been teasing the deluxe version.
At her intimate live event with fans, SZA revealed details about the deluxe version. “So the deluxe is a whole nother album and it’s called “LANA”. It’s 7-10 songs. And it’ll be out this fall,” SZA announces. “Lana” is short for her first name, Solana, and “Sos” is a nickname her friends call her. Thus, SOS and LANA form Solana.
Song Teasers & Tracklist Speculations
The deluxe will include unreleased tracks “PSA” and “Diamond Boy” previewed by SZA herself. Initially, a snippet of “PSA” was uploaded to SZA’s YouTube channel along with a visual prior to the release of SOS. Unfortunately, the track did not make the final tracklist, but the singer assures fans it will be on the deluxe.
Over time, Solana has expressed frustration towards her management team about the creative decision-making process for SOS. In fact, SZA fought for several songs like “Joni” and “PSA,” which didn’t end up making the final tracklist.
Furthermore, the latest preview of the yet-to-be-released deluxe came as a surprise at the end of her “Snooze” music video. The song snippet rumored to be titled “Diamond Boy” plays in the background of the visual. SZA is seen embracing a man in an empty grass field as the gleaming sunset bounces off her glowing skin. Her angelic vocals drifting over soothing chords utter, “Diamond boy why you so shiny? / Diamond boy come get behind me rodeo / Diamond boy your light so blinding.”
Additionally, SZA confirms songs “PSA,” “Diamond Boy,” as well as “Boy From South Detroit,” will appear on the deluxe. Other songs speculated to be on the SOS deluxe version include “Snooze” (Acoustic) feat. Justin Bieber and “Open Arms,” the solo version.
