From the top of the charts to arenas across North America, SZA celebrates her critically acclaimed album SOS on the road. The “SOS North American Tour” with special guest and grammy-nominated superstar Omar Apollo, is the singer’s first ever arena tour.
Slightly over a month from now, on February 21, SZA will take on Columbus, OH at the Schottenstein Center. Following the memorable first night of the “SOS North American Tour,” she will weave her way through Chicago, Detroit, Toronto, Boston, Philadelphia, New York, Atlanta, Dallas, Seattle, Vancouver and more. Wrapping up on March 22 in Los Angeles, CA, SZA will perform a total of 17 shows.
‘SOS’ Continues To Break Records
In the first place, the genre-bending and historic sophomore SOS album released on December 9, 2022. Currently, it remains at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart for a fourth week. As a matter of fact, SOS is the first R&B album by a female to spend its first four weeks at No. 1 on the chart since Janet Jackson’s album Janet in 1993! Remarkably, SOS would end 2022 as the fifth best-selling female album in the US with over 950,000 units sold.
Additionally, non-single“Kill Bill” is now the longest running No.1 hit by a female artist on the US Spotify chart this year, surpassing Taylor Swift’s “Anti-Hero.” Then, pop punk and rock infused “F2F” by SZA became the first song by a Black female artist to debut at No. 1 on Billboard’s Alternative Streaming Songs chart. What’s more, the singer is the 15th female artist in Spotify history to surpass 53 million monthly listeners.
In response to making history, SZA notes on her Instagram “Thank y’all so much . Speechless and thanking God .. all I got for rn . Love you all so very much…” ( @sza On Instagram) Moreover, SZA is ready to gift fans with a live experience of the record-breaking album. Importantly, “S.O.S North American Tour” will feature a very talented surprise guest: Omar Apollo.
More About Omar Apollo
For many, “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All)” was the hit song that served as Omar Apollo’s introduction. But in reality, the singer/songwriter has been releasing music since 2018. Although he is associated with his R&B roots, much like SZA, he branches out into different genres. These include funk, pop, electronic, hip-hop, reggaeton and more. And Apollo makes a statement with his unapologetic lyrical expressions of identity, love, and culture.
Conjointly, the viral hit “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All)” is actually credited to TikTok. The track was the soundtrack for a trend where users would present a slideshow of themselves. It served as an empowerment anthem in the aftermath of heartbreak and hardship. Encouraging self discovery and self love, people could strongly relate to the vulnerable lyrics. “You know you really made me hate myself / Had to stop before I break myself / Shoulda broke it off to date myself / You didn’t deserve me at all, at all, at all,” Omar belts in “Evergreen (You Didn’t Deserve Me At All).”
