Last week, on October 16th, Summer Walker celebrated a huge career milestone, as her 2018 debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer, turned five years old. And, what better way to celebrate the anniversary, and the album officially being certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA), than by announcing a new EP?
Summer Walker released Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) on October 20, as a special thank you to her fans who’ve supported her since her debut.

It’s Summertime
The past few weeks have been extremely prolific and joyful for Summer Walker’s music and public persona. The city of Atlanta and the Mayor’s Office of Film, Entertainment & Nightlife in fact honored her by proclaiming that the official last day of summer, September 22, is now recognized as Summer Walker Day. Moreover, the city of Atlanta also honored Walker for her multiple contributions and philanthropic efforts within Atlanta. One of her latest charity efforts is the Last Day of Summer Small Business Activation, in collaboration with Social Xurrency. The charity helps small businesses within the Atlanta community.
But that’s not all! Her success Girls Need Love was recently certified 6X-platinum, leading the artist to a return on her previous hit.
The Girls Need Love returns
The Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) EP comes with five different versions of Walker’s breakout hit single “Girls Need Love.” The song finds its highest power in Walker’s vocals, three times enchanted by guest verses from a trio of leading women, including Victoria Monét, Tyla and Tink. The female power shines even brighter remembering that Summer Walker is also amongst rare company as she’s become the latest person to join the exclusive list of women with 30-plus gold-certified songs. Only 8 women in the 70-year history of the RIAA have accomplished the rare feat!
In addition to the upcoming Girls Need Love (Girls Mix) EP, Walker will also release an exclusive cobalt blue vinyl for her debut mixtape, Last Day of Summer. Special limited-edition merchandise will be dropped on her official website as well.
A music video for the song “Girls Need Love (Acoustic)” is available as well! In the video, Walker is dressed in a Winnie The Pooh-inspired onesie and links up with her crew, who are also wearing animal-inspired loungewear, serenading about the wants and needs of a woman.
