Rising English pop artist SOFY released her new single “Egomaniac,” following August’s “Big Talk.”
Who Is SOFY?
We have a new artist you need to listen to, especially if you’re into alternative pop music. SOFY is a fresh find that brings clever lyricism and chill vocals to the table, perfect for a relaxing night at home or driving around town just for fun.
As a matter of fact, SOFY just started officially releasing music in 2021. Her debut single titled, “Strawberry Milkshake.” Since then, she has been delivering an array of tracks, plus her debut EP Bored in Colour (Pt. 1) in February this year. Now, she’s getting ready to release the second part of that EP.
In August, SOFY shared the first puzzle piece of Bored in Colour (Pt. 2) – “Big Talk.” Only two months later, she has now released its follow-up: the fun track “Egomaniac.”
A Brilliant Breakup Song
In “Egomaniac,” SOFY remembers all the red flags that she should have seen before dating her now ex. “When we’re with my friends you’re a solid 10/ But in the cab back home you’re going through my phone/ And the saddest bit, lunatic/ Made me think I deserved it,” she sings in the opening verse.
“‘Egomaniac’ is a breakup revenge anthem, inspired by the cult 2006 film John Tucker Must Die. “(If John Tucker was a 5′ 10″ soft boi from Hackney),” SOFY says. “Written from the perspective of breaking up with a narcissist, the song is about looking back and reflecting on a toxic relationship after it’s over, and seeing all the red flags that were missed at the time. (‘say love is blind til it’s over, you’ll never see yourself the way that I can see ya’). It’s been one of my favorite songs to play on the festival circuit this summer.”
If you happen to be in London at the end of the month, make sure to go see SOFY live. Otherwise, she’ll be playing another show there in March next year! Check out the information down below.
