Snoh Aalegra Releases The Tender-Hearted ‘Sweet Tea’

So far this summer, Iranian Swedish R&B singer Snoh Aalegra released four singles, including the angelic “Sweet Tea,” in anticipation for her fourth album. The Roc Nation artist’s last album, Temporary Highs in the Violet Skies, came out in 2021. “Sweet Tea” is about finding a peaceful kind of love with ill-fitted somebody, yet equally deserving of your love.

Aalegra’s signature airy vocals and honest lyricism on the piano-driven love balled “Sweet Tea” is reminiscent of Michael Jackson’s 1982 hit “Human Nature.” “I wrote it prior to kind of finishing up the production and once it was completed, it just really felt really spiritual in a way,” she said of the song. “It also has one of my favorite bridges I’ve ever written, and that bridge really takes me to another place in the song.”

Grammy-nominated producer No I.D., credited for work with Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, and Drake, collaborated on many Aalegra tracks, including “Sweet Tea.” “Sometimes when I work with No I.D. it’s like I’m writing to his music, to his beats, so it all comes together differently,” she said. “But this one was like that, where we were just all in the room and figured it out together and just felt it all together. So it’s really special.”

“Sweet Tea” follows “Be My Summer” as the second single from Aalegra’s to-be-announced fourth album. In 2019, Aalegra starred alongside Michael B. Jordan in her music video for “Whoa.” Later that year, she headlined a European and North American tour, with support from Baby Rose and Giveon, and appeared in NPR’s Tiny Desk Concerts in February 2020.
