Bruno Mars and Anderson .Paak in their duo Silk Sonic withdrew their Grammy consideration. Their 2021 album An Evening With Silk Sonic won’t be part of the 2022 celebration on awards night, February 5th.

Bruno Mars discussed the decision with Rolling Stone. The performer guaranteed their appreciation for the consideration, but jokingly said:

“We truly put our all on this record, but Silk Sonic would like to gracefully, humbly and most importantly, sexually, bow out of submitting our album this year.

He added:

“We hope we can celebrate with everyone on a great year of music and partake in the party. Thank you for letting Silk Sonic thrive.”

Silk Sonic’s record breaking album

The duo has indeed shined since the release of their first official collaboration, the album An Evening With Silk Sonic. With the singles “Smoking Out The Window” and “Leave The Door Open,” the band arrived, respectively, to almost 300 millions and 1 billion listeners. With their catchy and funky musicality, the songs also became TikTok trends, raising the popularity of the band. In particular, “Leave the Door Open” won all four Grammys for which it was nominated at the 2022 awards. Record Of The Year and Single Of The Year were included.

Moreover, the album itself has over a billion listeners, reaching the sixth place in the Billboard’s “Best R&B Albums of 2021,” and the seventh place in the Billboard’s “The Best Albums of 2021.”

Mentioning the single “Leave The Door Open,” Mars says that they’re “be crazy to ask for anything more.”

“Andy and I, and everyone that worked on this project, won the moment the world responded to ‘Leave The Door Open.’ Everything else was just icing on the cake.

He then concluded, thanking the Grammys for “allowing us to perform on their platform — not once but twice — and awarding us at last year’s ceremony.”

Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. answered to Silk Sonic decision through a statement.

“Silk Sonic has been such a fun highlight of our last couple of shows and they deservedly had an amazing night at the 64th Grammys earlier this year.

We appreciate their decision not to submit this year but look forward to celebrating an amazing year in music together.”

Bruno Mars and Grammys 2018 criticism

A reason that might be connected to Mars and .Paak’s decision to withdraw An Evening With Silk Sonic’s Grammys consideration is the criticism Mars received in 2018. In fact, in that year the singer won all six categories it was nominated for. His 24K Magic album and related singles won also the biggest awards: song and record of the year.
