Shygirl Announces Album and New Single “Firefly”

Shygirl Ready To Release Debut AlbumNymph Shygirl Album Cover

Established as an artist to watch from the underground music scene in London, UK’s Shygirl continues to create music laced in ecstasy and shrouded in strobe lights.  Recently, the artist announced her first full-length album, Nymph, is out on September 30th via NUXXE.  The project comes after two EP’s from Shygirl.  The first, her 2018 apocalyptic Cruel Practice EP and her genre-defining 2020 EP that followed; ALIAS.  Now, the singer/songwriter is ready to premier her debut full-length project using her meticulously-crafted bag of tricks.  Given the all-star lineup of collaborators on the album including; Arca, Sega Bodega, Mura Masa, and Cosha, Shygirl is poised to present one of the most anticipated projects of the year with Nymph.

The Hazy New Single “Firefly”

The album’s announcement includes the shiny debut single, “Firefly.”  Produced by Kingdom, label-mate Sega Bodega, and Shygirl herself, the track is swift and glittering.  On Twitter she says, “I have lots of favourites but this one is deffo how I’ve been feeling right now and kind of helped me re focus on what I wanted to say.”

The track is a much softer sound for Shygirl.  A garage-beat guides the song.  This, with Shygirl’s sensually shaded vocals, creates a whirlwind of trance and euphoria.  It then holds your attention even stronger when the foggy bridge rolls in.  Here, Shygirl sings “I’m right here like I been all those other times / Just waiting for you to give a sign” as the rolling bass picks up.  After glitching the vocals around in a breakdown it shoots you back into the bouncing chorus.  In all, energetically transitioning from one end of the song to another with ease.

Lastly, Shygirl’s other recent work includes collaborating with FKA twigs on “Papi Bones” from her mixtape CAPRISONGS.  Additionally, Mura Masa included her on “bbycakes” with Pinkpantheress and Lil Uzi Vert.  Another feature from his upcoming album includes Shygirl when released.
