Rosalia Taps The Weeknd for New Single “LA FAMA”

Rosalia and The Weeknd Team Up (Again)

Rosalia and The Weeknd join forces for the rhythmic new single, “LA FAMA.” The two trade verses in Spanish about the elusive and deceiving nature of fame. But this isn’t the first time the pair have worked together. In December of last year, The Weeknd tapped Rosalia for a remix of his 2020 hit, “Blinding Lights.” The duo reignites their chemistry on “LA FAMA” as Rosalia explores a traditional Dominican bachata sound.

An Album Is On the Way

“LA FAMA” is the lead single from Rosalia’s upcoming third album, “Motomami,” which is expected to arrive in 2022. “I wanted to write, in my own way, a bachata with a little story around ambition. Taking as a reference the lyrics of Ruben Blades or Patti Smith and the songs of Aventura, I ended up writing a story of romance with fame,” said Rosalia. This track is a powerful warning, exposing fame for the double-edged sword it really is. “Es mala amante la fama, no va a quererte de verdad,” croons The Weeknd, translating to “Fame is a bad lover and will not truly love you.”

Since the release of 2018’s El Mal Querer, she’s released a handful of singles including “A Pale,” “Aute Cuture,” and “TKN,” which got a feature from Travis Scott. Prior to “LA FAMA,” Rosalia contributed plenty of features to artists like Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, and Tokischa.

A Dangerously Flirtatious Video

The track’s release came with a video from Director X and a cameo from actor Danny Trejo. In this alluring video, Rosalia portrays the it-girl performer at an elegant dinner theatre. Donning a seductive, sparkly silver dress, she sets her sights on The Weeknd. And what begins as flirtation very soon takes a turn for the worse. Watch the video below.
