Queen to Issue Unreleased Song Recorded by Freddie Mercury

Iconic British rock band Queen are planning on releasing an unheard song previously recorded by late frontman Freddie Mercury.

A “Hidden Gem” Might be Released in September

It’s been over 30 years since the world tragically lost Freddie Mercury. Nevertheless, it now seems like before he passed, he left some songs recorded that have not seen the light of day yet. Luckily, it now looks like the surviving Queen members are planning to release a song that features Freddie as the main vocalist.

Recently, the Queen members discovered the song in their archives. Surprisingly, the track dates from their 1989 album The Miracle recording sessions; during which they laid down around 30 tracks – many of which were never released.

Speaking with Zoe Ball on BBC Radio 2, Queen drummer Roger Taylor explained, “We did find a little gem from Freddie, that we’d kind of forgotten about. And it was. It’s wonderful. Actually, it was a real discovery. It’s from The Miracle sessions, and I think it’s going to be out in September.”

Host Zoe then asked, “This is incredible. It always amazes me how you can lose a little gem like that. And when you find it again, who actually found it?”

Queen guitarist Brian May replied, “It was kind of hiding in plain sight. We looked at it many times and thought, ‘Oh no, we can’t really rescue that’. But in fact, we went in there again and our wonderful engineering team went, ‘Okay, we can do this and this’. It’s like kind of stitching bits together.”

Brian said, [The song] “It’s beautiful. It’s touching.”

Roger added, “It’s a very passionate piece.”

Queen + Adam Lambert on Tour

Freddie tragically passed away in 1991 from complications of AIDS. Since then, Queen has kept performing with Adam Lambert as the main vocalist. Currently, they are touring the UK and Europe on their Rhapsody Tour, which will go on until July 25. For more information, list of dates, and tickets, click here.
