PRETTYMUCH Return With New EP “Smackables”

PRETTYMUCH have returned from a year-long hiatus with a new EP “Smackables”. The 3-track EP includes ‘Stars’ as well as a harmonious ‘Free’ and heartbreaking ‘Parking Spot.’

A More Mature PRETTYMUCH

The EP has that unique PRETTYMUCH pop sound but redeveloped into a more mature sound. With powerful production, striking lyrics, groovy beats, and impeccable harmonies, they establish the band’s growth. The cover art was conceptualized by the band’s Brandon Arreaga who took inspiration from the Lunchables brand to create a unique and colorful artwork.

While they were on a break, the band signed to Sire Records, following the closure of Syco Music. Upon announcing their return, the band featured a countdown on their website for January 22, 2021. ‘Stars’ was announced on January 17, 2021, via social media, when the band posted the track’s cover art with the title crossed out.

Breaking Down Smackables

‘Stars’ was the lead single off the EP, followed by a music video. The music video shows some crazy visuals and a really cool setup. As always, the boys from PRETTYMUCH show us what they can do on the dance floor, dancing to amazing choreographies.

‘Parking Spot’ takes inspiration from a rap battle the group was watching one day. It hones in on the heartbreak of a girl giving up on a relationship. “Since when did you have other plans to leave me here in the sand with a broken heart?” the band sing over a trap-infused melody. The slick release also comes accompanied by a trippy fairground visual, with PRETTYMUCH trying to track down a mystery lady.

Lastly, ‘Free’ is a beautiful mid-tempo ballad about letting a loved one go. “We don’t have to fix it all to work it out / If you really love me, then you’ll let me set you free.” The band sings.

In this EP, we can hear how every member of the band was able to get their time in the spotlight. All of their voices sound great together as well as individually, and that’s what makes PRETTYMUCH sound so good.
