On July 9th, Post Malone dropped a new single, “Motley Crew”. The hip-hop giant brings a new sound to his discography, and even more unique visuals with its accompanying music video.
“Motley Crew” Video Features Post Malone’s Band of Misfits
“Motley Crew” is Posty’s first solo release since his 2019 hit album, Hollywood’s Bleeding. The single draws on influences from rock band Mötley Crüe, who often sang about their band of misfits. It seems Posty’s crew is just as mischievous and eccentric. The accompanying music video for “Motley Crew”, directed by Lyrical Lemonade’s Cole Bennett, features some unlikely stars. As Posty makes his way around a NASCAR track in a Rolls Royce, rappers such as Ty Dolla $ign, Tyga, and Big Sean make appearances along with many others. Professional race car drivers Bubba Wallace and Denny Hamlin also have cameos in the video. The most important appearance, however, is Mötley Crüe’s founder and drummer, Tommy Lee. It seems Post Malone has a pretty diverse friend group.
Posty’s New Sound
“Motley Crew” represents a divergence from Post Malone’s older music in that it has been mixed and mastered much more. The track features some heavy autotune, as it enters the realm of modern rap more than hip-hop. Posty’s true voice shines through of course, especially on his second verse. He croons over the lyrics, “What you gon’ do? I’ma pull up with the crew / When I’m off the juice, I like to hang out the roof / I’m rockin’ jewels, I like when the diamonds, they move / I just go through, I do not wait in a queue” and then returns to his rap. Though Posty has never rapped as heavily before on his discography, fans are enjoying this change of pace.
Can fans expect the same sound on his upcoming album? No one can be quite sure. Post is known to drop vague hints and avoid questions about upcoming projects. However, Twitter has gone ablaze with rumors of his newest album dropping July 23rd this month.
