Phoebe Bridgers Steps Off the “Sidelines” In New Love Song at Coachella

The Wait for New Phoebe Bridgers is Over

Pharbz everywhere are rejoicing over the release of Phoebe Bridgers’ first track since 2020’s Grammy-nominated Punisher. “Sidelines” appears in the upcoming Hulu adaptation of Sally Rooney’s “Conversations With Friends.” The song is featured in the show’s trailer and is now released as a single. Phoebe tweeted a link to the song with cover art of her grandpa riding a bull.

Phoebe’s drummer and frequent collaborator Marshall Vore created a demo of the song at the beginning of the pandemic. And when she was asked to make a song for “Conversations With Friends,” they revisited the track. After rewriting and rerecording, the final result is a moody, vulnerable yet fearless love song. “Watched the world from the sidelines/ Had nothing to prove/ Til you came into my life/ Gave me something to lose,” she sings in the chorus. Check out the tweet below to hear Phoebe talk about the song before making its live debut at Coachella. This performance was also Phoebe’s Coachella debut. She brought out Arlo Parks for the two Punisher tracks, “Graceland Too” and “I Know The End”.

Phoebe’s latest release is sustaining us for now, but sadly according to a press release, it’s the only original song she’ll release this year. But there is a glimmer of hope. In an interview with KROQ at Coachella, she said, “Who knows, actually. I try to do things that are exciting so I never really know what I’m gonna do.”

Phoebe Bridgers is out on the road all summer for her 2022 Reunion Tour. From April to August, she’ll go across North America and Europe. Click here for more details on tour dates.
