NPR is bringing back their “El Tiny” segment for the second year in a row! This time, the all-star Latinx lineup includes artists like Omar Apollo, Jessie Reyez, Carla Morrison, and Farruko.
Latinx Stars Unite to Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month
It’s Hispanic Heritage Month, and NPR is ensuring we celebrate it to the max. From September 15 to October 15, they are bringing some of the biggest Latinx artists to perform at their “El Tiny” series. Alongside the artists mentioned above, other stars that will join the party are Carin León, Girl Ultra, Trueno, Susana Baca, and Tokischa.
The special series will be a mixture of six Tiny Desk concerts and three Tiny Desk (home) concerts, curated by NPR Music’s Alt.Latino co-hosts Anamaria Sayre and Felix Contreras. As part of their relaunch programming, Alt.Latino will also have new weekly episodes of the podcast, a new social media campaign, interviews with Latinx musicians, and exclusive “El Tiny” merchandise.
“It’s an honor to present the best of our music on such a high-profile outlet like the Tiny Desk Concerts. Many of the musicians who we have brought in from Latin America have started calling it El Tiny. So that’s what I call it!!” Contreras said.
“The corazón of Tiny Desk is unmistakably universal. We’ve reached our gente all across Latin America for years now and for the second year in a row we get to honor them — juntos in celebration of musical excellence by us and for us.” Sayre added.
Other Big Artists That Joined the “El Tiny” Series Last Year
Last year, NPR also brought amazing artists to kick off the first year of their “El Tiny” series. Artists like J Balvin, Prince Royce, Camila Cabello, and Nicki Nicole offered A+ performances during the entire month. So, we can only get excited about what’s coming during this year’s series!
