Olivia Rodrigo celebrates the success of her sophomore album, GUTS, with the official video for the climatic album track “get him back!” The Jack Begery-directed video features clones of the 20-year-old singer as she imagines the best revenge, including wrecking cars, throwing knives, and destroying household items.
The release cross-promotes the newly debuted iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro as its introductory ad. In the video, photography director Xiao “X” Liu used the “crash zoom technique” with the 15 Pro’s 5x Telephoto camera, per the press release.
“I wanna get him back / I wanna make him really jealous, wanna make him feel bad,” Rodrigo and her clones rage in the song’s chorus.
Upon the release of her highly anticipated album, “get him back!” and “all-american bitch” became the most memorable athematic tracks, despite Rodrigo’s initial hesitancy to release the revenge banger. “We were writing all day and we wrote a song that I didn’t like and I had a total breakdown,” she told Apple Music. “I was like, ‘God, I can’t write songs. I’m so bad at this,’ being really negative. Then, we took a break and we came back and we wrote ‘get him back!’ and it’s one of my favorite songs, so just goes to show you: never give up.”
Tonight, Rodrigo performs the venomous track live at MTV’s Video Music Awards, hosted by Nicki Minaj.
