Normani Unveils Melancholic Single “Fair”

Singer-songwriter Normani is back with a new single. “Fair” arrives as the follow-up to last year’s “Wild Side” alongside Cardi B, but it’s the singer’s first solo single since 2019’s “Motivation.”

Writing “Fair” Was Like Therapy For Normany

Co-written by Normani, Abby Keen, Bernard “HARV” Harvey, and Felisha King Harvey; “Fair” is a melancholic ballad where the singer pours her heart out describing a past relationship that she hasn’t been able to move on from. “Is it fair that you moved on? ‘Cause I swear that I haven’t. Is it right that you’ve grown. And I’m still stuck in habits?” she sings in the heartbreaking chorus.

“This song really captures me in one of my most vulnerable moments,” Normani reveals. “Sharing this record makes me uncomfortable because you have never really seen me in this light. Definitely aware that you might feel like you don’t know much about me but that’s only because it’s what makes me feel protected. I am really forcing myself to let go here. This is huge for me and hopefully, this piece of art resonates. Love is beautiful yet so so terrifying.”

While speaking with Apple Music 1′s Zane Lowe, Normani added, “What makes it so special was… it captured me in the moment as I was experiencing. In real-time. I was going through it emotionally that, that day, I wasn’t sure if I could even really pick myself up to go to the studio. But ended up, and this was a result. And it’s therapy for me. As much as it is for everyone else, it’s for me.”

Performing on The Tonight Show

To celebrate the release of “Fair” Normani performed the track live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on NBC. Wearing a beautiful white dress, she executed a mouth-opening performance. In it, she showcased her giant dance moves and vocals, demonstrating how much she’s grown as a performer.

“Fair” serves as the follow-up to the critically-acclaimed “Wild Side” feat. Cardi B which dominated the charts following its release, hitting the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Hip-Hop/R&B Radio Chart. To date, “Wild Side” has amassed an impressive 325+ million streams globally.
