Jaehyun of Kpop boy group NCT has released solo single “Forever Only,” and everything about it is swoon-worthy.
NCT’s Jaehyun
Kpop boy group NCT’s Jaehyun recently dropped his first solo song—“Forever Only”—and NCTzens, the NCT fandom, are swooning over both his visuals and his vocals.
Under SM Entertainment, the ever-expanding, 23-member group NCT has several sub-units: NCT U, NCT 127, NCT DREAM and WayV. WayV is the Chinese sub-unit, NCT DREAM is the sub-unit for the youngest members, NCT 127 is the Seoul-based unit, and NCT U is the revolving unit. Jaehyun is officially part of NCT 127 and NCT U.
“Forever Only”
The song is full of looping guitar, subtle synths, and gorgeous harmonies from Jaehyun. By itself, “Forever Only” has an R&B sound that portrays Jaehyun’s new “sexy lonely” music, a term coined in a GQ article by Lucy Ford. Pair that sexy loneliness with a music video reminiscent of American boyband music videos from the early 2000s and you’ll realize that “Forever Only” is a whole vibe.
In that same GQ article, Jaehyun says that, in writing the song, he “thought of the loneliness” first. He explains his excitement to release a song that’s “filled up with my own voice and emotions.” Jaehyun hopes listeners learn more about his “true side” through his music.
In the song, Jaehyun sings about how difficult it is to not be with someone he cares about, especially when he had already dreamt about their future together. He sings about how important his ex was to him, and how heartbroken he is without them.
The single was released via NCT LAB, an SM Entertainment project used to release solo songs and unit songs. Fall in love with the music video below.
