Who is NCT 127?
NCT 127 is a K-pop boy group with nine members formed through SM Entertainment. The “127” in the group’s name represents Seoul, Korea’s longitude. This means NCT 127 are the Seoul-focused section in the NCT universe. As of 2024, there are six subunits of NCT. Some members from 127 even blend in to other subunits.
The group has seen major success since their 2016 debut touring arenas and venues all around the globe. NCT 127’s Sticker: The 3rd Album is their highest peak on the Billboard album chart at #3. In 2018, they earned #2 on the Billboard Artist 100 chart. On July 15, they made their long-awaited comeback with a full-length project, WALK. The album debuted at #2 on the Worldwide iTunes Charts, proving their global dominance. NCT 127 is a group full of talent with incredible vocalists like Doyoung, who can hit high notes effortlessly, and rappers such as Mark, who deliver effortless flows.
“WALK” Title Track Review
“WALK” is the perfect introduction to NCT 127 because it is what they do best: an experimental hip-hop song with a catchy beat, outstanding vocals and incredible rap verses. It has a strong confidence to it and has an interesting beat. The bass in the production is strong against the group’s powerful aura while they vocalize and rap. My favorite part is the last chorus with the mind-blowing high-note ad-libs.
The “WALK” era serves as NCT 127’s first time making a comeback with eight members, as the leader of the group, Taeyong, is serving his time in the South Korean military. He participated in some of the tracks for the sixth album, but promotions and performances will be the nine members.
In the music video, the group is giving out what looks like shoes to “walk” in, along with perfect choreography to match their very hip-hop-style outfits. The group brings an effortless swag to the music video with explosive dance moves and impeccable outfits. Every member has solo shots that look straight out of a commercial. This is not surprising since K-pop music videos go the extra mile to bring the best visuals and perfect creativity that is lacking in US artist’s music videos nowadays. The music videos have a very large budget in order to create videos that look like short films.
WALK Album Review
Overall, this album has 11 songs that are full of energy, continuing that experimental hip-hop music. NCT 127 are the masters at being able to switch between singing and rapping and not disrupting the flow of the track or making it sound forced. My personal favorite track from the album, “Orange Seoul,” is the perfect example of this. The track starts off with the vocal unit singing gorgeously until the rappers take it over smoothly with great execution. It doesn’t sound out of place, solidifying how they are known for the diversity in their discography. “Orange Seoul” is a favorite because of how catchy and infectious it is. The saxophone gives a jazzy/R&B feel to it that is brilliant and a great experience with headphones.
Secondly, “Can’t Help Myself” is another great song. It has a R&B feel to it similar to “Orange Seoul.” The piano production is perfect against their vocal and rap tones. The energy is high and they sound incredible on it. My personal favorite part is Doyoung in the verse because he sounds magical and leaves a lasting impression. Every song on this album was amazing and truly a must-listen. Check it out below!
