Nayeon’s first solo album, IM NAYEON, has made an historic, record-breaking debut on several Billboard charts.
‘IM NAYEON’ and Her Power
Im Nayeon, known by the stage name Nayeon, has just made Billboard history with her first solo album’s debut. Nayeon is a member of the Kpop girl group TWICE. With seven years of a music career under TWICE’s belt, Nayeon is the first member to work on and release a solo project. Thanks to her fans, she received a lot of firsts for a first solo release.
According to Soompi’s E. Cha, IM NAYEON debuted at No. 7 of Billboard’s Top 200. This makes Nayeon the first Kpop soloist ever to enter the top 10 of that chart. She also became the first Kpop soloist to be No. 1 on the Top Album Sales chart. On June 30th, just 6 days after the EP’s release, it sold 52,000 copies in the United States alone.
The accolades don’t stop there. IM NAYEON hit No. 1 on the Top Current Album Sales chart, as well as the World Albums chart. This No. 1 meant Nayeon became the first female artist to debut at the top of the World Albums chart this year. Additionally, the artist became the first female Kpop soloist to enter the top 50 of the Artist 100 chart by debuting at No. 5.
IM NAYEON’s momentum kept it going as it made No. 7 on the Tastemaker Albums chart. Title track “POP!” debuted at No. 15 on Global Excl. U.S. chart. It also made No. 30 on the Global 200, as well as No. 7 on the World Digital Song Sales chart. B-side “NO PROBLEM” also entered the World Digital Song Sales chart, not far behind “POP!” at No. 10.
An EP with Extensive Credits
Her eponymous EP, cleverly titled her full name as well as her introduction “I’m Nayeon,” proves the singer is fluent in all aspects of pop. From bubbly and bright to a smooth flow, the Kpop idol can do it all. She’s even credited as the sole songwriter of her mini album’s 5th track: “ALL OR NOTHING.”
Nevertheless, just because she can do it all, doesn’t mean she has to do it all. This EP also saw her collaborating with several other artists. Kpop boy group Stray Kids’ rapper Felix makes an appearance on the track “NO PROBLEM.” Korean rapper Wonstein is featured on the R&B-pop song “LOVE COUNTDOWN.”
