Here’s a heads up that the Movement Music Festival 2024, located in one of the most significant historical locations for house music in the heart of Detroit, will be this Memorial Day weekend. Since its true-to-the-genre origins, this concert series has grown into one of the premiere electronic events on the yearly slate. Here’s everything we’ve heard so far about what to expect for this year’s edition.
Movement Music Festival 2024 Unites Young & Old, Local & Global
For long-time electronic fans, the “lineup teaser” reveals a ton of storied acts that’ll surely carry weight if you were listening in the 2000s and 2010s. In that vein, Mount Kimbie and Fatboy Slim lead the category, though genre mainstays like Floating Points stand slated to appear. Conversely, as far as newer blood, Boys Noize, Avalon Emerson and Honey Dijon stand out amongst a pack of at least electronic-adjacent artists. Despite that crop of names, LP Giobbi functions as a de facto headliner in this preliminary announcement. Picking up a ton of momentum in the scene with her last album, Last Places, she’s among the leading names in terms of piano-led house. Similarly, James Blake is on the sked for a DJ-only performance.
Finally, Movement is set to be a truly international affair, with Sama Abdulhadi and Kevin Saunderson performing. The latter is bringing an unexpected level of star power alongside him, with Idris Elba taking the stage back-to-back after Saunderson’s set. That move follows a true revitalization of Elba’s music “side quest,” popping up on a smattering of British drill and jungle artists’ tracks over the past couple of years.
Movement Festival 2024 will take place May 25, 26 and 27 at Hart Plaza in Detroit. If the lineup so far has caught your eye, head to their official website for more detailed event information and to buy your tickets. Stay tuned to Music Daily for more music news.
