Most Streamed Artists in Spotify Revealed

Spotify has announced the tracks and albums that were the most popular globally in 2021 (in the period January 1st to November 27th): Bad Bunny, Taylor Swift, Drake, Justin Bieber, and BTS round out the top five most-streamed artists.

Bad Bunny Earns the Spot for the Second Year in a Row

For the second year in a row, the most-streamed artist on Spotify is the Puerto Rican singer Bad Bunny, whose songs were streamed a total of 9.1 billion times. He’s going up in numbers compared with 8.3 billion streams in 2020. After releasing two studio albums and a compilation in 2020, Bad Bunny released a series of singles in 2021 including the US Top 10 hit “Yonaguni.”

“drivers license” Was 2021’s Most-Streamed Song

It was also revealed that the most-streamed song of 2021 is Olivia Rodrigo’s “drivers license” with more than 1.1 billion streams this year (not surprisingly!) In the second and third spots respectively, are Lil Nas X’s “Montero (Call Me By Your Name)” and “Stay” (with Justin Bieber by The Kid LAROI. The fourth most-streamed song of the year is another one from Olivia Rodrigo, “good 4 u,” followed by “Levitating” by Dua Lipa.

Drake and Taylor Swift Reign in the United States

The most streamed artists in the United States were Drake, Taylor Swift, Juice WRLD, Kanye West, and Bad Bunny.

Taylor Swift’s new 30-track album Red (Taylor’s Version) featured the highly-anticipated 10-minute version of “All Too Well” alongside an accompanying short movie. The album also included previously never-heard-before songs “From the Vault,” and remakes of fan-loved songs such as “I Knew You Were Trouble” and “22.” The album earned 605,000 equivalent album units in the U.S. in the week ending Nov. 18, according to MRC Data. That marks the second-largest week of the year, right after Drake’s Certified Lover Boy.
