Sophomore Release
Morgan Wallen, rising country music star, has released his highly anticipated sophomore album. His first release in 3 years, the double LP is titled Dangerous: The Double Album. Dangerous is composed of 30 tracks, 5 of which are previously released high-charting singles: ‘More Than My Hometown’, ‘7 Summers’, a cover of Jason Isbell’s ‘Cover Me Up’, ‘This Bar’, and a new version of ‘Heartless’, his Diplo collab.
The double LP features country music powerhouses Eric Church and Jason Isbell, two of the young star’s idols. Wallen announced the release back in November, shortly after dropping a mini-film for ‘7 Summers’.
Morgan Wallen’s Rise
Wallen came onto the country music scene in 2014, making a name for himself on The Voice. Eliminated but not defeated, he captured the hearts of fans and the industry alike, earning his ticket to Nashville. The following year he released his debut EP, Stand Alone. 3 years later, he released his debut album If I Know Me, which was responsible for country radio’s number one song in 2019, ‘Whisky Glasses’.
Wallen, a prolific writer, let the songs pile up since his first album, joking with his manager about releasing a follow-up double album. Suddenly, he was under quarantine like the rest of us when,”…we realized it might actually be possible to have enough time to make it happen”, according to the album release statement.
Retail Exclusives
As for retail exclusives, Target has a special “clouded vinyl” pressing. Walmart has its own version: a three-LP blue-colored edition. Notably, only the Target exclusive comes with two bonus tracks, ‘This Side Of A Dust Cloud’ and ‘Bandaid On A Bullet Hole’. Prior to the release, there was a minor dispute between Wallen and Walmart. The retail giant lined their shelves with the new release days early at a number of locations. Wallen responded playfully on his Instagram page, stating, “I’m gonna start doing some of the leaking myself… I don’t shop at Walmart anyway!”
You can buy Dangerous: The Double Album in stores or on Morgan Wallen’s online shop here. The Target exclusive vinyl is available via the retailer’s online store or in person, same as the Walmart special vinyl.
As for seeing Wallen sing the new songs live, he will be performing virtually on Youtube and Facebook on January 12th.
