Welcome to Music Daily’s Trending Tracks, where we highlight the artists and trends occupying the music industry’s attention. Some come out of the woodwork, others have endured a months-long crusade to greatness. Nonetheless, all of them are captivating the short-circuited minds of Gen-Z social media users.

This week, rapper Megan Thee Stallion brings Japanese rapster Yuki Chiba mainstream attention with the viral trend behind the dazzly trap beat of “Mamushi.” Other entries from Billie Eilish’s new music and Lay Bankz’s TikTok famous song also complete this week’s Trending Tracks.

“WILDFLOWER” by Billie Eilish

How many “aura points” can you lose if you stream Billie Eilish’s devastating single too much? Before tackling this trend, “aura points” translates to Gen-Z’s terminology for a person’s “cool” factor. Netizens are using the depressive Eilish single to air their dirty laundry, tagging the caption, “How many aura points did I lose when…?” The audience then measures how much “aura” the creator loses based on how embarrassing or uncool the creator’s mini-story was. (And most times, they are OMG-worthy!)

dont worry guys! i never ended up getting anything and im happier now that im done

While Eilish’s crooning “Did I cross the line?” feeds into the intimate TMIs of millions, the song itself has very little to do with its own success. Its sadness just mirrors our own. Stream “Wildflower” by Billie Eilish below!

“Mamushi” by Megan Thee Stallion (feat. Yuki Chiba)

If you’re not locked into Hot Girl Summer, then you are missing this hit! Megan’s self-titled junior album leaves no stone unturned: there are callouts, Lil Kim-esque freaky-deeky moments and room for some booty shaking. Perhaps the most exciting entry is “Mamushi,” which entirely belongs to Japanese rapper Yuki Chiba’s husky voice. Megan is not only the self-proclaimed Hot Girl Coach, she’s a certified weeb. While in Japan, she presented at the anime streaming platform Crunchyroll’s 2024 award ceremony and linked up with buzzing talent like Atarashii Gakko.

In the H-Town Hottie’s mind, the trap razzle-dazzle “Mamushi” feels natural. It radiates from her simple yet bodacious dance that nearly every social media user is recreating, already capturing 157,000 videos since its June 28 release. “Tell Ur Girlfriend” by Lay Bankz

Like Megan Thee Stallion, Philadelphia rapstress Lay Bankz’s “Tell Ur Girlfriend” went viral for its cutesy dance. But this time, TikTok users couldn’t get enough of its synth beat: the single accumulated over 2.3 million videos and 194M streams on Spotify alone since its February release. The digitally flirty single peaked at No. 58 on the Billboard Hot 100. “When you want somebody and when you can’t fight this feeling, it’s like Cupid just comes out of nowhere,” she explains to Genius.
