Paramount released the first trailer for Mean Girls, adapted from the 2018 Tony-nominated musical based on the iconic 2004 comedy. The Tina Fey-produced film spotlights singer Reneé Rap (The Sex Lives of College Girls) reprising her role of Regina George on Broadway.
The cast sees a spectacular supporting cast consisting of Auli’i Cravalho (Moana), Angourie Rice (Honor Society), Christopher Briney (The Summer I Turned Pretty), Avantika Vandanapu (Never Have I Ever) and more.
Fey, who wrote both the original movie and Broadway adaptation, returns as Mrs. Norbury while credited as a screenwriter nearly 20 years later. Fey is a co-producer alongside Lorna Mitchells while Arturo Perez and Samantha Jayne act as co-directors. The film’s music is by Jeff Richmond with lyrics from Nell Benjamin (despite Olivia Rodrigo’s “Get Him Back” overtaking the trailer.)
While Tim Meadows also returns for this adaptation, newcomers Jenna Fischer, Busy Philipps, Connor Ratliff and Jon Hamm fill the A-list roaster.
The Mean Girls musical will premiere in theaters on Jan. 12, 2024. Although originally pegged for debut on Paramount+, the film is now slated for cinematic release. Watch the trailer below.
