Marshmello, internationally renowned DJ and gamer, enlists Mae Muller and Trippie Redd for his newest track. Titled “American Psycho,” the single channels recent pop-punk breakthroughs. Trippie and Mae both contribute verses about a failed love story, with one accusing the other of being a “psycho.”
Marshmello’s Collaborators
Marshmello is no stranger to collaborating with major hip-hop artists like Trippie Redd. In 2021, the DJ tapped Megan Thee Stallion for a feature on his album, Shockwave. In 2018, Marshmello and Logic paired up for edm-rap banger, “Everyday.” The Philly native has also collaborated with r&b giant Khalid, popstar Selena Gomez, and many others. Fans, of course, are thrilled at the addition of rapstar Trippie and English singer-songwriter Mae Muller on “American Psycho.”
Trippie Redd and Mae Muller Go Punk
Trippie Redd’s feature on a punk-leaning song is not surprising, given his current stint as an opener on Machine Gun Kelly’s tour. The rapper and singer has also featured on a few of MGK’s punk-pop songs as well. Mae Muller, who featured on dance hit “Better Days” with Polo G and NEIKED last year, is no stranger to EDM. The English singer and songwriter adds a certain vulnerable complexity to “American Psycho,” making for an engaging listen.

“American Psycho” is Genre-Blending
Mae Muller sings over powerful chords about the toxicity of a relationship, “All the lies that I believed in / Why are you surprised that I’m leaving? / Put on quite a show / True American psycho.” Muller’s point of view on the track differs greatly from Trippie Redd’s, as he sings of being labeled the “psycho.” Of course, this unlikely duo contributes to a well-produced, genre-blending single. “American Psycho” is a demonstration of Marshmello’s diverse music tastes, and fits well into the 2020’s punk resurgence.
More to Come
Aside from dropping “American Psycho,” Marshmello’s been busy. In June, he dropped “Numb” featuring Khalid – a mix of dance and r&b. In the upcoming months, he is also performing in Brazil, Singapore, and Mexico. For more information on Marshmello and all your favorite artists, check back to Music Daily often!
