Maisie Peters dropped new track “Two Weeks Ago,” which will appear on her forthcoming album, The Good Witch. Expected June 23, the sophomore album features previously released singles “Body Better” and “Lost The Breakup” as well. On “Two Weeks Ago,” Maisie Peters wishes to go back in time before a breakup. Her honey-like vocals float over a piano ballad that drifts into a fol- pop background.
“Two Weeks Ago” By Maisie Peters
Peters is regretful about a past relationship and reminisces on the blissful moments with her former partner. “I wish when we went to the bеach that day / We’d taken more picturеs, I’d been more brave / I was happier than I’d ever known / Now I wish it was two weeks ago.” Two weeks before the breakup, Maisie and her former partner were singing praises of love to each other. “Two Weeks Ago” sees Maisie wishing she had made the most of the last kiss and confessed her true feelings. “The airport broke us in two / A friend drove me ’cause you couldn’t do / That last kiss, couldn’t look at you / But I wish I did.”
The relationship took a serious turn when Peters’ ex quickly fell for her. Maisie had reservations so she held back, though she admits she was in love. “When you said we’re like your mom and dad / And you loved me, babe, when you told me that / And the song was true and the sky was black / God, I wish it was two weeks ago, woah (Woah).”
“The Epitome Of Bittersweet”
Peters gives more insight into the story behind “Two Weeks Ago” on Instagram writing:
“It’s about the drive to the airport when you can’t stop crying, and wishing you’d told someone how you felt when you felt it. I went and sat by the piano, turned the verse I’d been working on into a chorus, and the whole song appeared. I’d had the idea for ‘I wish it was two weeks ago’ floating around my head, had also written an entirely different song with that thought … but it wasn’t until that moment in that room that all the pieces fell into place. I remember going home that night and writing in my journal that I’d written this song, and that it felt important and special, and that I hoped it would find a home. And it did.”
