This past Friday, genre-hopping Rockstar known as Machine Gun Kelly released another punk single, gearing up for another project. “Papercuts” is the latest track from the rapper turned rocker and MGK brings plenty of attitude to go with it.
The song feels like a classic punk rock anthem with simple but strong chords and drums, allowing MGK to shine. Throughout the song, he talks about the progression of his life. From becoming famous, having a kid, and even switching up his style he gives a crash course on who Machine Gun Kelly was and still is.
After going against the music industry norm, MGK has plenty to say to those who put him in a box. He must feel a level of “I told you so” because MGK’s new approach to music is making his reach way bigger than ever before.
Overall, the song is great. It makes you want to head-bang and send a middle finger to all your problems, as you prove them wrong. It seems like the more we hear from Machine Gun Kelly, the better he sounds in this punk rock style. With so much going for him right now, it should be interesting to see what’s next for the star.
Machine Gun Kelly Is Constantly Evolving
Machine Gun Kelly made his first big break with his debut album Laced Up back in 2012, with “Wild Boy.” At the time the Cleveland native was known for his crazy fast rap style and “wild” persona. But after that drop, MGK didn’t release anything for three years, and his next three releases would drift under the Hip-Hop radar.
His last rap project was in 2019 with Hotel Diablo and even with a heavy urban influence, MGK was showing signs of punk rock. With features from YUNGBLUD and Travis Barker, it was apparent Machine Gun Kelly was experimenting with the rowdy genre.
Then in 2020, MGK dropped his first-ever punk rock album Tickets To My Downfall. It took many by surprise with the change, but somehow he made the change almost seamless.
Now he is pumping out music like crazy and if the pattern of the last few years is the same, we should see an album before the end of this year.
Machine Gun Kelly is going on tour this year as well. Starting on September 9, MGK will be traveling around the U.S. for his “Love Race” tour. For tickets and more info click HERE.
