Who is LISA?
Lisa Manobal is a part of the infamous K-pop girl group BLACKPINK, taking the world by storm. Known for her top-tier stage presence, she is the dancing machine and rapper of BLACKPINK. When Lisa came out with her first two songs, “LALISA” and “Money,” multiple records were broken. “Money,” Lisa’s fully English track, made history, earning a Guinness World Record. The record was for the first K-pop soloist to reach a billion streams on Spotify. According to the South China Morning Post, Manobal was the first K-pop female soloist to win Best K-pop at the 2022 Video Music Awards and MTV Europe Music Awards with her smash hit “LALISA.”
LLOUD
YG Entertainment announced the four members of BLACKPINK will stay with the company for group activities only. Their solo careers were up in the air until Lisa’s bandmate, Jennie, first announced her plans. She created her own label, ODD ATELIER, for solo activities. Manobal was the second to announce her solo plans, following in Jennie’s footsteps. On February 8, Lisa took to Instagram to announce LLOUD. The caption for the post read, “Introducing LLOUD, a platform to showcase my vision in music and entertainment. Join me on this exciting journey to push through new boundaries together.”
This means Lisa will have full control of what she does as a soloist for the first time. She can say yes to more things, like the Le Gala Des Pièces Jaunes, which she performed at. A few days after the initial announcement, Lisa shocked the world with more unexpected news.
Lisa’s Acting Debut
Lisa announced her acting debut in the HBO Emmy award-winning show, The White Lotus. Manobal is currently filming with a star-studded cast in her home country, Thailand, making history. She is now the second K-pop artist to be a part of an HBO series, following her bandmate Jennie in The Idol. It is impressive that her acting debut will be in such a massive show watched across the world with multiple award wins. The rest of the cast includes Patrick Schwarzenegger, Leslie Bibb, Dom Hetrakul, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey and more.
Since Lisa is my personal favorite person in the K-pop industry, the news came as a total shock. Not even a week after announcing her self-made label, she is acting in one of the biggest shows. If she hadn’t created LLOUD, she might not have had the chance to be a part of the show. Lisa is about to embark on a new journey as a self-made CEO who gets to make decisions for herself. There are two BLACKPINK members left, Rosé and Jisoo, who have yet to announce the new homes of their solo projects. So, will you be tuning into Lisa’s acting debut in the third season of The White Lotus?
