Folk-pop artist Lizzy McAlpine has been quickly making headway as a rising musician. She’s already been
collaborating with big artists, such as

According to Xander Zellner at
Billboard, during the week of February 28
th, “ceilings” debuted at No. 75 on the Billboard Hot 100. It rose from No. 6 to No. 5 on the Hot Alternative Songs chart. Then, it rose from No. 8 to No. 7 on Hot Rock Songs. Finally, the song rose from No. 9 to No. 8 on Hot Rock & Alternative Songs.
Last April, her album
five seconds flat, which features “ceilings,” debuted as her first chart appearance at No. 5 on the Heatseekers Albums. Later, the album made No. 10 on the Vinyl Albums chart. It also made No. 33 on Top Album Sales. This year,
five seconds flat debuted at No. 6 on Americana/Folk Albums.
Additionally, “ceilings” is McAlpine’s first song on the Official UK Singles chart that has made it to the top 10. The week of February 28
th, it went from No. 21 to No. 9.
Inside the Track
“Ceilings” is an incredibly emotional song. Lizzy McAlpine writes of a seemingly perfect love. However, she hints at some aspect of this relationship that isn’t quite right. In the last verse of the song, she reveals that the love isn’t real—it’s been in her head the entire time. She uses “ceilings” to express missing a relationship and the companionship and intimacy that comes with it.
The song has become viral on TikTok, specifically this verse:

McAlpine performed “ceilings” on
